It
seems that I only update this
"news" section once or twice a year
nowadays...yeesh!
Well, in today's world
of social networking, tweeting and
facebooking, I guess personal website
are becoming a thing of the past.
Regardless, I thought I'd post an update
on here for your viewing pleasure.
So
some exciting news to share with you...I
have recently commenced study at the
prestigious Australian Film, Television
& Radio School (or better known as
"AFTRS") in Sydney. I'm
working towards a Graduate Certificate in
Directing and hope to take my
storytelling skills and technical
know-how to the next level. It's been
quite overwhelming but a helluva
lotta fun so far.
So
stay tuned for some exciting film
projects coming your way very soon.

Those of you who are familiar with the reality dating show
(experiment) called “Dating in the Dark”, can look forward to seeing
yours truly on Australian screens in the coming weeks, as
I'm a participant (dater) on the show.
Testing the theory “is love really blind”, the show features six housemates (three guys and three girls) who can only get to know each other through various group and 1-on-1 dates in the “Dark”.
You can take a look at my episode on good ol’ Youtube below and see me in all my
"Dark" glory.
Enjoy

Just
wrapped filming a pilot episode for an
all-new Australian TV comedy series,
which will hopefully get picked up by a
major television network and premiere in
2010. Cant say a whole more at the
moment, other than it's absolutely
hilarious and features some of
Australia's best comics and
actors.
I
had the privilege of working behind the
scenes during pre-production and
filming...so fingers crossed it gets
picked up! Exciting times ahead!
Stay
tuned...

Not
a whole lot of news to report from the
past few months but I spend a couple of
days "laughing till it hurts"
at the Melbourne International Comedy
Festival earlier this months. Saw some
hilarious comics in action, including
Arj Barker, Jimeon, Akmal and my good
buddy Joel Ozborn. Too many laughs!
In
other news, I'm working on a new horror
short-film that I've been brainstorming
for a while now. The script is yet to be
finished but hoping to start production
later this year. Should be a lot of fun
and offer a few thrills and chills for
all you horror buffs out there. More
news to come...

December

After
all these years of turning up to
countless auditions, working unpaid on
short-films for a film credit, spending
endless hours working on student
productions...the hard work has paid
off. I am thrilled to announce that my
short-film Dice & Other
Catastrophes and yours
truly is now officially listed on the Internet
Movie Database (www.IMDB.com)
- the Mecca of all things films. It's
been a life long dream (ok, maybe not
that long) to one day see my name on
IMDB...and that day has finally
arrived.
So
feel free to take a look when you get a
chance.
Till
next time, Stay Scared!

It's
finally finished! Post-production on my
TropFest short-film Dice & Other
Catastrophes is complete and the
short-film has officially been submitted
into the 2010 Movie Network TropFest -
Hazzar!!!
TropFest is the largest short-film
festival in the world and attracts
hundreds of aspiring
film-makers annually. So
keep your fingers crossed that it fairs
well with the judges.
Im
thrilled with the final edit and wish to
sincerely thank everyone that was
involved in the production. It was a
helluva lot of fun to make and I cant
wait to screen it early next year
(hopefully as a Finalist at TropFest
- hey, one can dream).
Be
sure to keep an eye on the Internet
Movie Database (www.IMDB.com)
in the weeks to come for an official
listing of Dice & Other
Catastrophes.
Till

Wowzas!!!
It's certainly been an age since the
last update...my bad!
So
what's been happening? Well, I've
written a new short-film for next year's
TropFest called "Dice &
Other Catastrophes" and hope to
get cracking on production in the coming
months.
Without
giving too much away, it's a cute little
dramatic comedy about an average Joe
who's struggling to deal with the recent
loss of a loved one.
Should
be good fun (and hard work) putting it
together, so plenty more updates to come
in the months ahead...so stay tuned!
In
other news, Im heading back to LA (my
2nd home) in October for a much-needed
2-week vacation...and it wouldn't be a
holiday without a week's worth of Vegas
thrown in there. Plenty of holidays
snaps to come.
Till next
time, Stay Scared!

It's
been a long long long time since the
last update. "Prey for
Daylight" seems like an eternity
ago now but well after a year of being
completed, it's still making waves on
the internet. It is currently the most
viewed horror short-film on "Nice
Shorts" - The home of premier
short films online. Check it out at www.niceshorts.com.au(you'll find "Prey for
Daylight" under the
"horror" genre).
In
other news, I'm currently featured in a 3G
Mobile Broadband television
commercial (TVC) playing on the tube at
the moment. So be sure to keep an eye
out for it or check back shortly to the
Screening Room for a look see.
That's
all to report at the moment. Till next

Greetings friends,
Some very exciting news. With
post-production almost complete, the Official
Trailer for "PREY FOR DAYLIGHT"
is now online!
You

with behind the scenes snapshots coming
soon.
June

Greetings friends,
Well the home stretch is nearing...Editing on my short-film, "Prey for Daylight" is almost complete (about 90%). I've still got a few pick-ups and transitional shots to do...but that's all in a days work.
I'm pretty stoked with the rough cut so far. I've started laying down the sound FX and score...and what a difference it's making. It's looking great. I can't wait to have it all wrapped up in August.
And speaking of wrapping things up...when it's all good and done, my major goal is to submit "Prey for Daylight" to
SCREAMFEST 07
- one of the largest horror genre film festivals in the world, hosted in LA each year in October. Screamfest has introduced some of the biggest and scariest horror films to date, including
"Wolf Creek" in 2005.
So that tiny little light at the end of the tunnel is starting to get a lot brighter!
Keep your eyes open in the coming weeks for a "Prey for Daylight" trailer! Coming online soon.
So stayed tuned folks...

Wahoo
!!! Filming has finally wrapped on my
short horror film. So the end is
nearing. It has been a hell of a lot of
fun so far and many thanks to all those

Greetings
All,
Bit
of a Short-Film Update for you.
Well the past week has been very tiring but very productive. I've finished filming the next large chunk of my short horror film, including most of the night scenes...which I have to say, are looking
"preee-tay" scary! At the end of the day it should definately make for a nice little bit of "shock and gore".
No rest for the weary though...I'm straight back into more filming out in the Blue Mountains towards the end of the month.
Many thanks to Denny, Khan, Zoe & Lauren (sweet special FX girls) for their awesome work and incredible endurance! And of course, a big thanks to good ol' Mum for her awesome catering skills ;)
More updates to come....along with the
long anticipated production site (it's
coming)!
In
other news, I've officially hit the
world of MySpace...well i've been on
there for a while, just never mentioned
it...
Wow!
Has it been that long since I last made
an update. Geez...time flies when you're
having fun I guess. Well apologies to
all. On an up note, I've added some new
photos to the "portrait"
gallery. Feel free to check them out.
More
updates on my short-film coming later
this month...stay tuned!

Well
some exciting news to report. Filming on
my new short-film has begun in and
around Sydney and in Nundle (south of
Tamworth). I am thrilled with the
initial footage so far and am looking
forward to the rest of the shoot. Most
of my time has gone into the
pre-production process and now filming,
so my apologies for the lack of updates
to the news section.
I'll
start to have a number of production
updates over the coming weeks and
months, along with some "On
Location" photographs and a
brand-new production website coming
soon.
Stay

It's
been a while since my last update and
not a lot has happened in the past few
months, however, I did recently finish shooting a UTS
short-film titled "Another
Dinner", in which I played a small
supporting role. I hope to add to it to
the Screening Room in the not too
distant future. Speaking of the Screening
Room, I've added a new
clip. You can now
view a scene from the hit BBC sitcom
"Everything I Know About Men"
(aka "According to Bex"),
which I performed recently in a Sydney
acting class. Meanwhile, my
screenplay "Prey
for Survival" is going
through some heavy script development
and is currently being evaluated by
industry script assessors at the
Australian Writer's Guild. So hopefully
I'll get some good feedback. Stay tuned
for more updates.

Well
unfortunately I missed out on making the
Top 50 scripts in the Project
Greenlight Australia contest...but not
to worry. I am still very thrilled to
have made it through to the Top 100 on a
fist ever attempt. I am now going to
"polish" my script and push it
for some professional script development
and hopefully take it further.

I received some very very exciting news
today!
From the more than 1000 entries to the
Project Greenlight Australia contest, my first-ever screenplay
Prey for Survival was peer reviewed and rated as one of the
Top 100 scripts.
Project Greenlight is a successful contest that was established in 2000 by Academy Award Winners
Matt Damon and
Ben Affleck in association with American Pie Producer, Chris Moore and is now in its third season in the United States. Movie Network is running this unprecedented contest to find Australia's most promising undiscovered writer/director and guarantees to provide
ONE MILLION AUSTRALIAN DOLLARS to fund a feature film.
February
15, 2005
Well,
unfortunately neither of my short-films
that were entered into the Sony 2005
TropFest made the cut for Final 16...but
not to worry. Both short-films will be
available for your downloading pleasure
shortly (hopefully by the end of the
month). I'm also looking forward to
checking out which films did actually
make it to the finals on TropFest
screening night (Feb 27).
In
other news, I'm proud to report that
I've just submitted my first-ever
feature screenplay into the Project
Greenlight Australia
contest. Founded in the U.S. by Good
Will Hunting buddies, Ben
Affleck and Matt
Damon, the contest attracts
aspiring writers to submit their
original live action feature screenplay
for judging. The winner is given a
budget of One Million Dollars to
direct his/her screenplay. Regardless of
how my screenplay fairs in the contest,
I'm looking forward to getting some
feedback....I'll keep you posted.

Welcome
to 2005!
The
annual Sony
TropFest is just around
the corner (February 27th) and two
of my short-films, "Coffee"
and "Mum's Place" have
been submitted for entry. TropFest is
the world's largest film festival and
has this year attracted 792 entries -
the highest number ever in its 13-year
history.
So,
fingers crossed, one of my two films
will make it to the Final 16 and
be screened on the night. If not...oh
well, there's always next year.
Rest
assured, both films will be available
for download right here at GrantLavac.com

The
Screening
Room has been updated with
two new films which I completed earlier in the
year. One is a commercial (student
production) promoting the "EAT
Channel" on FOXTEL
Digital, while the other is a short-film
titled "Carpark".
Be sure to check them out.
Received
some nice publicity recently. The
Hawkesbury Independent Newspaper ran
an article in late November on the
short-film "Mum's
Place", in which I
played the role of "Steve".
The film will be entered into the 2005
Sony TropFestand if it performs well and
reaches the final (fingers crossed), will be
screened nationally on Sunday 27th
February 2005. "Mum's
Place" will also be available for viewing
on this site.
I
had the exciting privilege of working as
a background actor on "Afterlife", an
Australian Film Television & Radio
School (AFTRS) short-film starring Lisa
Hensley ("Brides of
Christ"). The dramatic action short
was shot on the Mission
Impossible II 747 Airplane
set at Serenity Cove Studios in Kurnell.
"Afterlife" will be entered
into various National &
International Film Festivals in 2005.
I
also attended the 65th Anniversary Party
for Actor's Equity in Sydney. Several
stars from stage and screen were in
attendance to help celebrate Equity's 65
years in show business. Lord
of the Rings: The Return of the King
star and former AFI Winner, David
Wenham toasted the night and
wished Equity the best for a further 65
years.

short-films and TV Commercials.

Some
more exciting short-film news to report
today...
I
am thrilled to announce that I've won
the lead role in a very funny short-film
which will be entered in the 2005
Sony TropFest Film Festival. This
will be my second TropFest film shot in
just as many months and fingers crossed,
it will make it all the way to a public
screening in February 2005...maybe even
further, who knows! Shooting begins in
late November.
October
19, 2004
Just
completed a short-film titled "Car
Park" in which I play
"Rick", a cocky young
executive with an ego to go. Clips from the
short-film will be available for
viewing online shortly.
In
other short-film news, I am preparing
to play a supporting role in a very funny TropFest
short. Shooting is scheduled to begin at
the end of the month. More details on
this project shortly.
October
10, 2004
I
had the privilege of attending a special
preview screening of an absolutely
brilliant and intensely terrifying film,
"Open
Water" starring Blanchard
Ryan and Daniel
Travis. Based on true events,
"Open Water" tells the story
of an American couple who are accidentally
left behind by their dive boat during a
scuba diving trip...cold, alone and
miles from land, they drift for hours in
shark-infested waters.
Watching
the film brought back chilling memories
of a similar experience I had while
scuba diving with my father in the Philippines
in 1998....
Caught
in a nasty current 100 feet under the
surface, my father and I were swept 2km
off shore...upon surfacing, our dive
boat was nowhere to be seen...we drifted
for over an hour in shark-infested
waters...a search party was assembled
and rescue efforts were underway...the
search party never found us...we were
eventually fished out of the ocean by a
local fishing trawler that happened to
be passing by...
After
the screening and Q&A session with
the audience, I had the opportunity to
share my "lost at sea"
experience with the Director, Chris
Kentis and congratulate him on a
fantastic piece of filmmaking.
To
date, "Open Water" has grossed
more than $35 million dollars in the
U.S. alone...not bad considering it was
shot a on a budget of only $120,000.
September

A
wonderful article on my dad's life was
published today in "The Manly
Daily" newspaper. Appropriately
titled, "Colour Behind the
Courtroom", the story tells of
his humble beginnings as an escapee of
his home country at the age of 5...his
world-record surf-ski paddle from Hong
Kong to the Philippines at the age of
44...and a long awaited return to
Australia after 18 years as a successful
barrister in Hong Kong.
Today
marks the coming of the 56th
Annual Emmy Awards in
Hollywood. It's hard to believe it has
been a year since I attended the 55th
Emmys at the famous Shrine Auditorium.
Well, I'll definitely be watching

all those familiar famous faces from
last year. For a look at some of the

I
had the exciting privilege of working as
a background actor on "Amorality
Tale", a 14-minute short-film
directed by Mike
Bullen, the internationally acclaimed writer of the hit British TV series “Cold Feet”.
The short-film stars Australian actress Jenni
Baird ("All
Saints"), who has recently returned
from Vancouver after shooting a pilot for
"Global Frequency", a Warner Bros series based on the sci-fi comic.
August

I
had the privilege of attending a special
event at the Sydney Theatre Company -
"In Conversation with Cate

interview with the Academy Award
Nominated Actress and formed NIDA
graduate. Conducted by Robyn Nevin
(Director, Hedda Gabler), Cate answered
many questions relating to her
experiences an as actress and shared her
deepest thoughts about the art of acting.
In
other news, I have added a new clip
titled "The
Ketchup Bottle" to
the Screening
Room. This scene was recorded
during a recent 8-week On Camera
Workshop in Sydney.

Even though she's not everyone's

What
a fantastic event! Held on the eve of

Jackson. Australian stars,
Jacqueline McKenzie, Simon Baker, Gia
Carides, Olivia Newton-John and pop
princess, Holly Valance were also in
attendance to pay tribute to the

I
have just commenced my 2nd exciting

I
am also excited to announce my

I
recently performed a scene from William
Mastrosimone's "The
Woolgatherer", marking the
completion of my first semester of
acting at UCLA. I thoroughly enjoyed my
first 12-week acting course and look
forward to a 2nd semester in early 2004.
I'm
hoping to have a video clip from my
performance online shortly...so stay
tuned!

There
are some major updates today, as a lot
has happened since the last report.
Here
are the major highlights:
I
am currently studying acting at UCLA
under the coaching of successful
stage and screen actress, Barbara
Tarbuck, who can be seen in
the upcoming film, "Walking
Tall" featuring The
Rock.
I
have taken a short trip to Las
Vegas, spent a fantastic weekend in
San Diego, a gorgeous day in
Tijuana, Mexico and a beautiful four
days in Paris, France with my
sweetheart. Be sure to take a look
at all the photos
from my traveling adventures,
including a new section I call Postcards
from Paris.
The
recent celebration of Halloween on
October 31st, marks the 25th
Anniversary of John Carpenter's
"Halloween" starring Jamie
Lee Curtis. I had the opportunity of
attending "Halloween Returns to
Haddonfield: The 25th Anniversary
Convention" in Pasadena,
California and hear from and meet
many of the stars and crew members
associated with the films. 25 years
after it's release,
"Halloween" has achieved
cult status and has spawned a number
of successful sequels, turning it
into one's of the most successful
independent films and movie
franchises today. Be sure to check
out all the photos
from the event!
Check
out all-new
celebrity homes...well,
permanent resting places actually!
While in France, I visited the
world's most visited cemetery and
resting place of rocker Jim
Morrison, actress Sarah Bernhardt,
author Oscar Wilder and French
singer, Edith Piaf.
Celebrity
sightings - I ran into Oscar Winner,
Cuba Gooding Jr. while dining at
popular American Restaurant Chain,
Jerry's Famous Deli; bumped into
former Late Night with Conan O'Brien
co-host, Andy Richter; met
child-turned-adult actress, Danielle
Harris at a recent Convention
celebrating the 25th Anniversary of
John Carpenter's
"Halloween".
Did
You Know: JFK was struck down by an
assasin's bullet in Dallas, Texas forty
years ago today! Was Lee Harvey Oswald
the lone gunman? Maybe we will never
know...

I
had the privilege of seeing Jerry
Seinfeld perform LIVE at the Long Beach
Terrace Theatre this weekend. Man, I've
never laughed so hard in my entire life.
Jerry performed 90 minutes of all-new
material! Every word that came out of
his mouth turned to gold. The audience
of about a thousand or so erupted with
laughter at every gag. I even caught
actor James Spader in hysterics a couple
of times.
A
great night all round...my ribs are
still hurting!

The
gorgeous Cameron Diaz. Saturday Night
Live alumni, Norm McDonald and Kevin
Nealon. The list of Hollywood stars that
I run into continues to grow.
This
month has been a busy one. Here are a
few of the highlights:
Hearst's
Castle, home to media tycoon,
William Randolph Hearst until the
late 50s. Located in beautiful San
Simeon on the California Coast, I
didn't anticipate how popular this
tourist attraction would be. After
driving for 5 hours and
arriving in the coast town at about
2:00am, I was devastated to see
nothing but "No
Vacancy" signs posted out front
of every motel. It was a rough night's
sleep in the car to say the least. Click
here for photos.
Las
Vegas, Nevada. After visiting
the "city of sin" every
year now for the past four years, I feel
like a bit of a regular. This trip,
I stayed at the Luxor Hotel and
Casino. Built as an actual pyramid,
this hotel is like no other hotel
experience.
Calico
in the Mojave Desert. Once a
thriving mining town in the 1800s,
this now Ghost Town looks like
something straight out of a
Hollywood Western. With desert
temperatures reaching a scorching 45
degrees, I came to appreciate some
of the struggles those early folk
would have faced. At the end of the
day all I could say was "thank
god the car has
air-conditioning". Click
here for photos.
Hollywood
Celebrity homes. Check out the latest additions: current and
former abodes to Academy Award
Winning Actors, Nicolas Cage and
Warren Beaty. Click

The
Getty Center. This "One
Billion Dollar" Museum is like
none other in the world today. Some
of the world's most rare and prized
art pieces, including originals from
Van Gough and Monet are on display
for the public to see at no charge.
There are even a handful of rare
antiquities from J. Paul Getty's
private collection. If you are a
lover of art, the Getty Center is a
must see!
More
news and stories to come next month!

Greetings
from LA! The arrival of the 4th of July
weekend in the USA marks the first
update for GrantLavac.com
I have spent
most of my time settling in and adapting
to the LA lifestyle. I have found a
wonderful place to stay - right in the
heart of Los Angeles and only 5 minutes
from Rodeo Drive (Beverly Hills).
Since my
arrival on June 19th, I have passed the President of the United States and his entourage (twice in the one day) on the 405 Freeway, been interviewed and photographed by the LA Times for a story on rental accommodation and have come close to a shooting spree of 7 people which
occurred not too far from my hotel down in Carson (the Redfern of LA). It's been an interesting first two weeks here to say the least.
Thankfully,
I have all the comforts of back home:
internet access, cable television, DVD
and a movie theatre in the Westfield
Shopping Centre just across the road.
In
this update I have included some images
of my new home and some
of the many sights of LA. Click
here to view them now.
